Founded in 1994 by Dr. Robert (Bob) Hedin, Hedin Environmental is a small professional firm that specializes in mine water characterization and treatment. We are a worldwide leader in the passive treatment of polluted mine water with projects in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Vermont, Brazil, Laos, Vietnam, and Madagascar.

Passive treatment uses cost-effective and sustainable materials and features like ponds, wetlands, limestone, organic matter, and solar power for mine water treatment. We pride ourselves on installing reliable treatment systems and developing innovative mine water treatment technologies.
Decades of Experience
Since 1994, Hedin Environmental has designed over 70 installed treatment systems in Northern Appalachia, USA and dozens of installed treatment systems outside of the USA for nonprofit groups, mining companies, and government organizations. Ben Hedin and Neil Wolfe, both longtime employees of Hedin Environmental, bought the business in 2023 and look forward to continuing to provide low cost and innovative mine water solutions.
